It all started in the 1953 when Rel Maples contacted Everett Kircher to build a chairlift in Gatlinburg. He agreed after acquiring a lease for the land from Maples and bought an existing ski lift from a resort in California to install it at Gatlinburg. Finally the skylift was constructed and run from Gatlinburg to the top of Crockett Mountain which proved to be a big hit with both locals and tourists.

The Gatlinburg Skylift has been a popular feature of the city for many years from now which offers thrill and excitement that transports you to "Gatlinburg's No. 1 Scenic Overlook”. This Sky Lift is a 50-year tradition and millions of visitors have boarded the Sky Lift at the convenient downtown station for views of the mountains' seasonal splendor.

The Sky Lift offers a thrilling ride to the top which includes spectacular views of the Smoky Mountains and a fascinating glide over the Little Pigeon River on the way to the top of Crockett Mountain, which towers more than 500 feet over the town of Gatlinburg.

At an elevation of 1,800 feet, the Sky Lift offers lot of scope to enjoy the view and even have a picnic lunch. This popular, overwhelming Gatlinburg attraction is suited for all ages, and is a great activity for any family traveling to this area.
